Dear Karing,
I am going to a Diwdali festival with some friends and I was wondering what type of clothes should I wear or not wear?
Yours Truly,
Ponder
Dear Ponder,
It seems like this is your first time at a Diwdali festival, this festival is often refer to the “festival of light” and is a Hindu holiday celebrated around October and November, which is celebrated over five days. There are many fireworks that would go into the night on the first night. As well, many people often enjoy decorating their houses with oil lamps. There are many customs including exchanging sweets and the gathering of family members. This festival is to honour the goddess Lakshmi.
Now here is for the clothing advice, you shouldn’t be wearing any synthetic clothing or loose hanging clothing; this reason is because of safety issue with the fireworks because they may catch on fire. Usually, it would be preferred if you wore cotton and tight fitted clothing. If you are not around any of these areas, then you should not need to worry about this. It is accustom to wear new clothing to the first day of the celebration. They would normally wear their typical traditional clothing, but it will be all new or the finest materials to celebrate this day. They would wear a sari, which is a two metre to a six-metre scarf, normally they will have hand made sari with golden thread and fine silks. Most would have an entire outfit of the Indian style dresses with bright colours which would be all hand sewn with elaborate designs and with beadings. Men would normally wear a typical Indian style as well where it would be a simple top and bottoms, it won’t be as elaborated as the woman’s style, but it would be made from a very fine materials.
I hope this would help you and enjoy the Diwdali festival!
Yours truly,
Karing
Dear Karing,
I am attending a Hanukkah festival and I’m not sure of what type of clothing I should I wear and not wear.
Yours truly,
Confused
Dear Confused,
First of all, Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday celebrated by Jews all over the world around November and December. In a Hanukkah festival, also referred as the “festival of lights”, as it is celebrated for eight days and nights. In these eight nights they would lit a menorah that has eight candles, lighting one each night. This holiday symbolizes the war that was won of the Jews representing the freedom.
In Hanukkah festival, there is not that much restriction limiting the type of clothing you should wear. Normally, you would wear casual type of clothing to this since this is a relaxing holiday where family members and friends gather around together. They won’t mind what you wear as long as it is not anything leather, this would not be appropriate, but if you were to wear running shoes, it will be all right. Otherwise, you should enjoy the party and relax.
I hope you have a Happy Hanukkah!
Yours truly,
Karing
Dear Karing,
I am going to go Northern Europe on a cruise over the summer holiday. The trip is pricey, so I’m on a tight budget for clothes. What type of clothes should I wear and where can I buy them?
Yours truly,
Euro North
Dear Euro North,
Cruising over in the summer, you can expect warm weather in Europe, there would be sun out for most of the days and especially with the cruise, you will be able to visit most of the several of areas that will be able to show the many traditional cultures of Europe. In Northern Europe in particular, the sun will be out all day.
Due to the warm temperature, you are going want to wear summer clothes, being t-shirts, tank tops, shorts, cargo pants and sandals. These would keep you cool for the most part and most importantly comfortable.
Clothes are very expensive, but there are plenty of places where you can go where it would be fair prices. You could also go to second hand stores; the clothes are usually cheap and in good quality. As well, some of the stuff there are very unique, so yours could be a one of a kind. The Salvation Army is also another place for a low price. You may also consider getting hand-me down from siblings or from cousins and other relatives.
I hope you find this useful and have fun!
Yours truly,
Karing
